Booking your first aesthetics consultation in Downpatrick can bring a mixture of curiosity and nerves. You may have a clear concern, or you may simply want to talk about changes you have noticed in your skin. Either way, you do not need to arrive with a treatment already chosen. I will help you work out where to start.
I am Karen Turley, a nurse prescriber with 18 years of experience in nurse-led clinics, including women’s health and general practice. At my Downpatrick clinic, you have time to explain your concerns, ask questions and think about the options before deciding.
Start with your concern, rather than a product name
It is easy to come across a treatment on social media and wonder whether it might suit you. Bringing that question to a consultation is useful, but you do not need to turn it into a decision before you arrive. Describe what you have noticed, how long it has been on your mind and what you hope to discuss.
It is equally helpful to say what you like about your appearance and would prefer to keep unchanged. If your aim is a subtle change, explain what subtle means to you. A reference photograph can help communicate an idea, but your own features and circumstances should remain central to the conversation.
Choose the consultation that matches your question
I offer a skin consultation, a full-face assessment and an anti-wrinkle consultation. Each is free and lasts 20 minutes. You can read about these on the consultations page before choosing an appointment. If you are uncertain, contact me and describe what you would like to discuss.
For questions about facials or your skincare routine, a skin consultation is a useful starting point. You might want to read about The Skin Sanctuary or understand the differences between the options on the skin boosters page. Reading beforehand can help you form questions, without putting pressure on you to book a particular treatment.
Bring a few useful details
Write down your current medicines, allergies, skincare products and previous aesthetic treatments. Where possible, include the dates and product names from earlier appointments. If another practitioner has given you relevant information or aftercare instructions, bring those along too.
Bring the information you have and mention anything you are unsure about. Tell me if your health or circumstances have changed since an earlier visit. A few notes can help you remember medicines, dates or questions that might otherwise slip your mind during the appointment.
Ask what treatment involves
Before deciding, ask what the proposed option involves, what it can reasonably offer and what its limitations are. Ask about risks, preparation, aftercare and any review appointments. If a term is unfamiliar, ask for an explanation in plain language. If something is unclear, please ask me to go over it again.
It is also sensible to understand the complete cost. Ask whether the plan involves one appointment or a course, and whether there are any separate follow-up costs. You can see appointment options and prices online. At your consultation, I explain the recommendations and cost for your individual plan.
Make the plan fit your life
Let me know about a forthcoming holiday, wedding, work commitment or anything that may affect your availability. Ask how appointments and follow-up would fit around those dates. We can discuss how treatment and any follow-up would fit around those commitments.
You can also talk about your budget and the time you can realistically give to appointments or home skincare. Being clear about those boundaries helps make the conversation more useful. Before you leave, I want you to understand what I have recommended, why and what would happen next.
A consultation leaves room for a decision
Booking a consultation does not mean you have committed to treatment. You can take time to think, discuss further questions or decide to leave things as they are. If you have already had treatment at the clinic, the review appointment page explains the separate check-in option.
When you are ready, view the free consultation choices and follow the booking link to AesthetiDocs. For a question before your visit, contact the clinic. If you are unsure which appointment to choose, tell me what you would like to discuss.
