What happens during microneedling?

We'll start with a thorough double cleanse before applying a PCA SKIN hyaluronic acid hydrating serum to the areas we've agreed to treat.

I use the One Needle Pro microneedling pen, which creates tiny, controlled microchannels in the skin. This encourages your skin's natural repair process and stimulates collagen and elastin production.

Over time, microneedling can help improve fine lines, acne scarring, enlarged pores, uneven texture and overall skin quality.

Want to give your skin a little extra attention?

We can also discuss upgrading your treatment with NCTF 135 HA, a skin revitalising solution containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants. It's designed to support hydration and improve the overall appearance and quality of your skin.

For suitable skin types, we may also consider combining microneedling with a carefully selected PCA SKIN peel as part of your treatment plan.

05 / Frequently asked questions

Microneedling: what to expect.

Typical experiences and recovery times are a starting point. I will tailor your treatment and aftercare to your skin.

Does microneedling hurt?

You may feel a prickling or scratching sensation, especially over bony areas. I will discuss how the treatment feels and check your comfort throughout your appointment.

How red will my skin be, and for how long?

Expect some redness or a darker colour change, warmth and sensitivity afterwards. These usually settle over a few days, although they can last up to a week. Allow recovery time before an important event.

When can I wear makeup again?

Wait at least 24 hours before applying makeup, and longer if your skin remains irritated or your personalised aftercare advises it.

When will I see results?

Results develop gradually as your skin responds to treatment. I recommend a course of three to six sessions before assessing the overall improvement. The timing and extent of results vary with your skin and the concerns we're treating.

How many sessions will I need?

I recommend an initial course of three to six sessions, with the number and spacing tailored to your skin. After completing your course, I recommend one maintenance session every three to four months, where suitable.

What does NCTF add?

NCTF 135 HA is a skin revitalising solution containing hyaluronic acid, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants. It adds a focus on hydration and overall skin quality alongside microneedling. I will explain whether this combination suits your skin and goals.

Can microneedling help acne scars?

Microneedling can help improve the appearance of some acne scars. Where suitable, I can also use a single needle specifically to target individual scars. I assess the type of scarring and your skin before agreeing a treatment plan with you.

I am a nurse prescriber with a Diploma in Nursing Sciences and 18 years of experience in nurse-led clinics. I spent more than a decade working in women's health at Daisy Hill Hospital and continue to work as a prescribing practice nurse.

My aesthetics training includes Array Aesthetics Academy in Belfast and advanced training at Dr Bonny's Academy. I want you to understand your options and feel comfortable asking questions before deciding.
