Skincare in Downpatrick: preparing for a facial or skin consultation

Not sure what your skin needs? A look at preparing for a skin consultation, bringing your current routine and making sense of facials and peels.

PCA Skin products in the clinic

With so many skincare products and treatments to choose from, it can be hard to know what suits your skin. Start with what you already use and the changes you have noticed. At a skin consultation in Downpatrick, we can look at your routine together and talk about the concerns you want to address.

I offer free skin consultations and PCA SKIN facials and peels through The Skin Sanctuary. You can read about these before visiting, but you do not need to choose a facial, peel or product in advance. I will assess your skin and explain which options may suit you.

Your everyday routine is useful information

Before a skin consultation, take a photograph of the products you use or write down their names. Include cleansers, moisturisers, sunscreen, serums and any prescribed skincare. Note how often you use each product, rather than just making a list of everything in the bathroom cupboard.

Include anything you have recently stopped using and explain why. Perhaps you found the routine difficult to maintain, or a product felt uncomfortable. Those details are worth mentioning. You do not need to buy new products to prepare for the appointment, and you do not need to present a routine that looks impressive on paper.

Describe changes in your own words

Think about what has prompted you to book. When did you first notice the concern? Is it consistent, or does it come and go? Have you changed products, or had any previous treatments? Bringing a few notes can help you remember the details you wanted to discuss.

You do not have to diagnose the issue yourself. Everyday descriptions are useful: your skin feels different, your routine has become confusing, or you would like to understand a particular option. Explain what matters most to you, rather than trying to cover every possible concern in one appointment.

Facials and peels at The Skin Sanctuary

The Skin Sanctuary treatment page covers my PCA SKIN facials and professional peels. I offer the Express Medi Facial, Brightening Facial, Deep Detox Facial and Red Carpet Facial, alongside several peel options. The page explains what each involves, how long it takes and the price.

If a facial or peel interests you, ask me what it involves, how to prepare and what to expect afterwards. I will check whether it suits your skin before we make a plan. If you have a particular date in mind, mention it before choosing the appointment.

How other skin treatments differ

I also offer skin treatments beyond facials and PCA SKIN peels. You can read the BioRePeel Skin Peel page for single appointments and courses, or read about microneedling for face and neck options. If you are comparing them, note what you would like to ask me at your consultation.

Injectable treatments are another option to discuss. The skin boosters page includes Profhilo, Belotero Revive and Seventy HYAL. There is also a dedicated BabyGLOW page. If you are comparing names, ask me to explain the purpose, limitations, risks and practical requirements of each option.

Keep time and budget in the conversation

Your skincare routine needs to fit your day. Tell me how much time you can give to your daily routine and how much you feel comfortable spending. Ask which steps have a clear purpose, what you are expected to do between appointments and when the plan would be reviewed.

It can be helpful to write the agreed routine down. You can refer to it at home and ask me if you are unsure about a step. Before buying anything new, make sure you understand how it fits with the products you already use.

Ask about aftercare before your appointment ends

Before you leave, ask about aftercare for your treatment and when to resume your usual skincare. Ask who to contact if you have a concern and how follow-up is arranged. Different options have different requirements, so advice for one appointment should not be assumed to apply to another.

Share relevant medicines, allergies, skin sensitivities and previous treatment information with me. If you are unsure whether something matters, mention it. I would rather you mentioned it than worried about whether it was relevant.
